Most states number interchanges to the nearest mileposts. Some (New England, NY, PA, DE, FL [except the Florida’s Turnpike] and some other turnpikes) number their exits sequentially (1, 2, 3…). California doesn’t number exits at all, except for some instances on freeways in Los Angeles (US 101, I-5 and I-10).
