Has anyone ever heard of a cat chattering at other cats?

My cats chatter sometimes but I find it is mostly when they are watching birds out of the window. You are very lucky to have found a cat that’s nice with your others from the get go. When we rescued a kitten last summer our old cat was fine with him and wasn’t worried but our younger cat hated him in the beginning. It took a while but he finally realised that the little kitten wanted to play and that he could be really rough with him and he still kept coming back! Now they are the best of buddies and spend all their time wrestling together on the bed. What’s nice is the kitten (now 8mths) has taken to curling up and sleeping with our old cat which is very cute. He’s bonded the 3 of them really well. Cats are weird creatures sometimes but fascinating to watch! My cats are really curious today as I just brought home a new foster dog!

My cat makes a chattering noise when he sees the birds outside the window, I have heard that the movement they make that accompanies the noise is similar to a special bite that cats use in the wild when they want to make sure their prey won’t get away. So your cat may be making an instinctual noise that they use when they are around potential prey or predators.
