Has Harriet Harman been nominated by fellow MPs for Rear of the Year award?
It is about to become one of the most hotly contested seats in politics. Harriet Harman has been confirmed as a surprise candidate in the 2010 Rear of the Year contest. Labour’s deputy leader has received more than 40 nominations, making her the first MP to be put forward for the title in its 28-year history. Most of the on-line support is believed to have come from mischief makers at the House of Commons. But Miss Harman, the ardent feminist Equality Minister, is unlikely to be amused. The competition includes the likes of Holly Willoughby and Cheryl Cole and Miss Harman, 59, is regarded as an outside chance. But at 20-1, she is at least a better bet than Susan Boyle at 50-1. Rear of the Year organiser Tony Edwards said Miss Harman received about a dozen votes last week and the numbers have risen since. Voting via the event’s website continues until May and the winner will be announced in June. Previous winners include Rachel Stevens, Felicity Kendal, Anneka Rice and Charlotte Church.
