How are chinchilla rabbits bred?

0

There are actually 3 breeds of rabbits called chinchilla in the US. They are Standard Chinchillas, American Chinchillas and Giant Chinchillas. See http://www.arba.net/Breeds.htm for pictures and weights. In addition, there are quite a few breeds that have a chinchilla variety which means that the rabbits in the variety have the body and fur characteristic that define the breed but have chinchilla coloring. So for example, you can have Chinchilla variety Netherland Dwarfs or Chinchilla colored Mini Lops The genetics of chinchilla color are well understood and the color is easy to breed. Getting the color is pretty easy but it is a good bit harder to get the color perfect. That is really true of any well established color, good is easy – perfect is hard!
