How are scholarship recipients selected?

0

Scholarship recipients are selected by the School of Medicine Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee or according to their guidelines. The committee is made up of faculty members. Most scholarships are need-based and require the submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the School of Medicine Scholarship Application. Both forms will be mailed to you starting in January if you are accepted.

To be completely objective and yet account for different academic levels in schools and grades, the Society enlists the help of a local service organization (such as Rotary or Optimists Club) to judge essays submitted to the Society by students attending school in their area. (We number the essays and strip them of names before forwarding for judging.) Thus, local judges select the winning essay from among those submitted in their community.

The selection of scholarship recipients is entirely in the hands of an independent Screening Committee comprised of notable individuals in the private and public sectors who volunteer their time for this purpose.
