How are teams of teachers and students created?
The building administration assigns teachers to teams based on their areas of specialization. At GMS each instructional team has five core area teachers; math, English, reading, social studies and science. Core area teachers on the teams consult with support staff, such as school counselors, Student Assistance Program personnel as well as Student Support Team individuals when appropriate. Incoming students are randomly mixed to create heterogeneous groups, giving them an opportunity to maintain old friendships from previous schools and/or community/neighborhood relationships while meeting a variety of new students as well.
