How can human trafficking be stopped?
Human trafficking is a safety issue, and this is an issue that government has to step up and take charge and take command of. They first of all have to define the issue, and once the issue has been defined, they have to start providing resources that will number one; educate the public about the problem, number two; understand that the victims or the people involved in this, the young people involved in this, are not criminals but victims, and then finally to be able to provide services for these young girls (generally they do tend to be young girls), so that they are able to get their lives back on track and hopefully move forward productively, as opposed to being stuck in the morass of drugs and prostitution for the rest of their lives, which probably won’t be very long lives given the problems that are inherent in those populations.
Human Trafficking will exist as long as Demand exists which will be difficult to completely eliminate. Additional laws especially around the illegal commercial sex side can begin to force a decrease on demand. When laws are enforced that disgrace and punish buyers of illegal commercial sex then demand will decrease. Another argument on the commercial sex side is to legalize and enforce standards to prevent human trafficking.
The Polaris project is making a difference. See the video below on what they are doing including this new texting program. They say that 73% of abused people have access to texting.
Human trafficking is growing all over the world. Many of these unfortunate victims are children and women. Here’s what you can do to help fight this huge problem. You can spread the information at your friends or on social media regarding trafficking. You should definitely warn teens and children about how they could be aware and safe. You can read books, articles and news about this theme. You can join and become a volunteer in the non profit companies that fight against sex trafficking organizations. Or you can just make a small donate. These are small but very important steps that you can do and to help fight this problem.
