How can I dry fresh mushrooms to preserve them?
If you are going to do this a lot, you might invest in a food dehydrator. I use mine to dry hot chiles (and then powder them), make “sun-dried” tomatoes, make fruit leather, and, yes, dry mushrooms so I can throw them into soups and stews later. If you don’t want to do that, lay them out on grills or pans in the oven, prop the door open about an inch, and let them dry there. If you have a gas oven with a pilot light, that’s all you need do. If you have an electric oven, make sure the light in the oven is on and that will provide enough heat. It will take a few days this way, though.
