Tax office can’t tell you this. National Insurance details not retained there, and National Insurance Office would need to see end of year employer’s return to advise you. That is done in April/May. There are several classes of NIC contributions. You should be having deductions at Class 1, table A. If you have a form P60 from employer for the last tax year, ending April 2008, that should show an A by National Insurance box. It may or may not be on a payslip, depends what format employer uses. There is no longer any such thing as a full National Insurance stamp for employees. Deductions are based on how much you earn. You get £105 free, and 11% of anything over that amount is deducted. Anyone over State Retirement pension age doesn’t pay National Insurance, although employer still has to make contribution. That is Class 1, table C.
