It depends on what kind of computer it is. WARNING: You will lose ALL files on your computer. Backup any photos, songs, documents, etc. before formatting. You WILL lose everything. Computers used to come with restore CDs. If you have these, you’ll need to put the restore disc in and reboot the computer. Every restore disc is different. You’ll have to follow the onscreen instructions for reinstalling the OS (restoring the computer). These discs are different because they restore the computer to the configuration it had when you purchased it. Newer computers come with partitioned hard drives. The manufacturer partitions part of the hard drive as a separate file system that contains the restoration files. It works the same way as a restore CD, except it’s all stored on the hard drive in the separate partition. Look in your user’s manual for specific instructions on how to start the restoration process if you have a partitioned hard drive. The final option is using an OEM Windows XP disc.
