How can i make sound work again on my computer?

If the computer says that there’s no sound card, and you installed a known-good driver, the sound card is probably bad. It’s probably part of the motherboard, so you’ll have to get an external sound card (they connect to a USB port). It usually doesn’t pay to replace the motherboard.

If you reinstalled your sound driver and it didn’t help,it’s probably your chipset driver.Go to your computers website,go to support and look for a chipset driver for your computers model number.

Go to start button, then right click on My Computer and choose Properties, then Hardware, then Device manager, then look for your sound card or device in the list and remove it. Upon reboot it might find and reinstall it. Or it might be time for a new sound card, which is about 39 bux at best buy or newegg, com.

Have you tried going to the device manager window? (you can get to device manager through this – right click on my computer, choose system properties in the context menu or listed under task in Vista) Look through the list to find (sound, video and game controllers to see if the device has a problem listed which is indicated by a colored dot with a mark right before the hardware in question, if so right click on and uninstall the device that has the issue , then reboot the laptop, windows should rediscover the hardware and opt to install the device and drivers in question, this sometimes helps if your sound card is having a resource conflict.
