How can I register to vote and what is the rule about primaries and political parties in Florida?

You can register to vote by visiting the Brevard Supervisor of Election’s website or by going to the Projects page of this site and click on the logo for “GET OUT THE VOTE.” Florida is a closed primary state, meaning that only those voters who are registered to the Democratic or Republican parties can vote in primary elections held in Florida. If you are registered an independent or have another party afflilation, you must wait until the general election to cast your ballot. The only exception to this rule is if the office for which a candidate is running is nonpartisan, then any person who is registered to vote may cast a ballot in a primary election.
