How can I stop my miniature Dachshund from barking?
Dachshunds are hounds and hounds are notorious for barking. If he barks while he’s on his leash, you can get a bark collar or you can just tug his leash and tell him no really firmly. You can even reach down and flick his nose and tell him NO. If this is happening in your house or yard, bark collars still work or you can put some coins or rocks in a can and shake it to startle him while he’s barking. This some times doesn’t work with hounds because it encourages him to bark over the noise. You can also spray him with water, but don’t look him in the eyes while you do this because it could ruin the bond between you guys. If he’s barking at people outside while he is inside, just block off the windows so he can’t and he’ll learn not to bark inside. Remember not to yell while he’s barking. Dogs interpret your yelling as barking, so you’re just reinforcing his barking making it seem like it’s okay to bark, because hey, you’re doing it. A simple but firm NO works the best.
