I think the case that you are referring to is not typical of schizophrenic mothers. Most individuals who adhere to their medication regime are fully functioning and as such have the right to be parents if they so wish. What is paramount, is that they continue to receive support from their local Mental Health Team as well as support from social services. As much as the story of this girls treatment is abhorrent, the fact that the mother was highlighted as being schizophrenic is alarmist at the very least. The problem was not the mother, but the lack of support from social services. Most instances like this can be avoided if social services actually did or are able to do their job competently.
