How can psychological theory inform research in teacher education?

Watt, Monash University Timeslot requested: 2 hours for innovative presentation format outlined below SYMPOSIUM OVERARCHING ABSTRACT This Keynote Symposium has been jointly invited by the “Motivation and Learning” and “Teachers’ Work and Lives” AARE Special Interest Groups. Invited presenters each draw upon a different motivational theory from the field of psychology, and elaborate its applicability to current trends in teacher education research. Each of self-concept theory (Paper 1), possible selves theory (Paper 2) and adult attachment theory (Paper 3) are elaborated as major motivational frameworks, which the presenters are fruitfully drawing upon in the context of research concerning teacher education. In an innovative presentation format, each of the three presenters in the panel will speak for 20 minutes to outline: – the central issue/s in teacher education research which prompted their interest, –
