How did Haiti gain its Independence from France?
This was the only successful slave revolt in history. The European (French) population of Haiti was dwarfed by the number of slaves. The revolt had good timing – the French Revolution was on, and these revolutionaries believed in freedom for all men. Napoleon sent an army to Haiti to regain control, but the French were inept in the wet climate, and most of them died of yellow fever.
