How did Julius Caesar conquer Italy?
He really didn’t conquer Italy, but he did defeat Pompey. Elected pontifex in 74 he became the leader of the democratic party overthrowing Sulla’s constitution. After a year in Spain as a quaestor he married Pompeia, In 65 as curule aedile he spent vast sums of money on games and public buildings and was named pontifex maximus. In 61 he obtained the province of Hispania Ulterior and on his return he was elected consul. Next obtained the province of Gallia Cisalpina, Gallia Transalphina, and Illyricum; passing into Gaul for 9 years he had campaigns by which he completed the conquest West to Rome.
