How Did Lincolns Assassination Affect The Civil War?

0

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in April 1865 and he was the first American president to be assassinated. His assassination took place after just 5 days of the civil war ending when Lee had surrendered to Grant at Appomattox. Lincoln’s assignation had a very bad affect. Besides people’s mourning and grief, the peace efforts by Lincoln were ruined and the South was blamed for the crime. Before people even knew that Booth was responsible for the crime, they blamed the southerners for the act because it fit with the situation of the war according to which the owners of the slaves were held in blame for causing all the violence and death.
