How did the civil war effect the soldiers life?

0

After the Civil War, many soldiers were dead or wounded very badly. Those who weren’t saw things that changed them for the rest of their lives. Many soldiers turned to alcohol as a way to solve their emotional problems, and many times domestic abuse took place because of the violence the soldiers saw when they were in war. Entire generations of boys were killed in action, many times killing off a family name. During the this time period, getting shot anywhere could be a death sentence, especially if you were shot somewhere other than an arm or leg. If shot in the arm or leg, it was almost always amputated, leaving the soldiers maimed for the rest of their life. This really affected their job opportunities when the war ended, and there was no veterans insurance then, so it really affected their entire families also. Many soldiers who fought for the Confederacy lost morale after the war, and came home to a south that was in shambles. This made it especially hard to find jobs for them sin
