How Did the Code of Hammurabi Change history?
Well, the Code of Hammurabi is one of the first know instances of established laws, which by all means are quite good in maintaining civilization and preventing us from looting and killing each other. The Code of Hammurabi was also carved into stone so that no one could change these laws (unless they really, really wanted to). The whole carving business was probably painful for those who had to chisel the laws onto the tablets, because if they made a single typo, they’d have to start all over again. The tablets were placed in public view to prevent ignorance of the law as an excuse. Incidentally, the person who came up with this forgot that nobody could read. Or the person did know, and just did this to taunt them.
