How did the giraffes long neck evoluted??
Natural selection caused the Giraffe’s neck to be longer. In a point of time when the species of Giraffes were still ‘young’, in other words, just came into being, some theoretically had short necks. Over time, those with longer necks can reach more food and therefore were able to survive better. Their long necks were passed on to their offspring, which ensured a higher survival rate. Giraffes with short necks, however, cannot compete with those with longer necks so they were dominated. Another theory is the use and disuse. Any creature frequently using an appendage will have a high chance of having its appendage evolve. Example, at first, all giraffes have short necks. Trying to reach more foliage, they continually stretched their necks until the time came that their necks grew longer. The elephant’s trunk is virtually of the same idea and concern, just change the word giraffe with elephant and the neck with the trunk.
