How did the Titanic movie become a bestseller?
Previous movies had relied on only eyewitness testimony as to her demise; the discovery and investigation of the wreck provided much more evidence as to her sinking. In some earlier movies (Raise the Titanic, for example) the ship is shown completely intact on the ocean floor. Ballard’s discovery proved that she did indeed tear in half prior to her final sinking, confirming the testimony of some, and discrediting others.
