How did the US involvement in southeast asia impact the US political climate in the 1950s?
Eisenhower sent “advisers” to Southeast Asia to help them train and fight the communist. The fact that the communist were expanding into Southeast Asia sent shivers down the spine of the US and her allies. In the US the FBI, and congress were actively searching for known communist, suspect communist, and communist sympathizers. Many people were afraid of nuclear war and were building nuclear shelters in fear of a nuclear confrontation. There was much fear and with the continued communist expansion into Korea, it only increased the fear.
