How did Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton respond to the French Revolution?
Jefferson and Hamilton did have differing views of the revolution in France. Jefferson, who had served as foreign minister to France, believed that the United States should help the French in their revolution again the tyrannical King Louis. He believed that we should support the efforts of French citizens whose cause was similar to ours. Jefferson was instrumental in helping with the ideas that became the French Declaration of the Rights of Man. Hamilton, who was a monarchist, say the French Revolution as a threat. He believed that the United States should stay as far away from the French cause as possible because it would cause Britain to stop trade with the united states which was the vital source of income for the nation at that time. Hamilton was in love with the British parliamentary model.
