How difficult is it to install the backup sensor?
No special tools are required to install the Guardian Alert backup warning system. Compared to other alternatives, with up to four external ultrasonic sensors and a separate control unit, this system incorporates a very simple cable arrangement. One cable with pre-attached connectors runs between the display indicator and the sensor. A second power cable is spliced into the backup light circuit. The positive and negative power leads are interchangeable, further simplifying the installation. For some vehicles which do not use impact foam between the crash bar and the rear bumper skin, the Behind-the-Bumper model sensor can simply be slipped into place and secured with the supplied 3M Dual Lock fastner. In other cases, the bumper skin may need to be removed to facilitate the installation. The hitch and license plate frame models can usually be installed in less than one hour.
