How do freedom of information and data protection access rights apply to information about pay and reward modernisation?
A. Pay and reward modernisation deals with information about jobs, terms and conditions, processes and practices, and also deals with personal information about individuals’ pay and contribution. The University will usually deal with requests for the former under freedom of information legislation, and for the latter under data protection legislation. In some cases exemptions will apply either in the short or long-term. For example, policy discussion papers may well qualify for an exemption before the decision is taken, as releasing them at that stage might cause “substantial prejudice to the effective conduct of public affairs”. Once the decision has been taken both the details of the decision and the discussion papers showing the other options considered will probably be available for release.
