How do I adjust the pilot light on my gas furnace?

Check the ThermocoupleLook at the position of the thermocouple, and ensure the pilot light is about 1/2 inch from the top of the thermocouple; the flame should just overlap the tube of the thermocouple. Push the thermocouple closer to or further from the pilot light, depending on its position.Clean the Pilot Light OrificeTurn the gas valve to the “Off” position. Push a pin into the pilot light orifice to clean it. Scrape the edge of the orifice to remove debris; too much debris lessens the pilot light flame.Adjust the Gas Control ValveReview the manual for your gas furnace. Locate the screw on the gas control valve that controls the gas to the pilot light. Turn off the gas by closing the control valve. Adjust the screw to increase or lessen the gas flow. Tighten the screw for less gas; loosen the screw for more gas.
