One of the most important things when it comes to the video game industry is contacts – failing that, its unlikely you will find a job just looking around. You CAN get a job without a degree, you just need to really put yourself out there and personally get in contact with the game companies yourself, and this can be a giant hassle and a huge letdown sometimes. I know of someone that will be the contact for you however and will help refer you to around 50 companies! This is a pretty good opportunity, check it out – http://tinyurl.

Most companies will require you to have a 2 year degree in the field in order to know that you have a understanding in programming, etc, and not just “this game is fun!” My gf is currently in game development classes and headed down the path you are looking for. Most times the first job you will land after a Game Development degree will be a Quality Assurance Tester. This is not saying you CANT, but most companies will expect this much from you. imo land yourself a random part time and find a college that offers Game Development classes near you.

the best way to do it is to look for game companies in your area, than find those specific websites. they usually have job openings on there. a game tester sounds like magical work, and a dream job for any gamer, but here’s what people dont tell you a) your spending 75% of your time trying to bug the game, and the other 15% writing bug reports. only 10% of it has to do with how fun or hard the game is b) they hire full-time temps (if thats not a contradiction). you are required to show up 40 hours a day, like a normal tester or game designer, but only hire you until the game is done. once it is, your let go, and your jobless. c) you have to be VERY GOOD at games in order to get in.
