Locate AlternatorDisconnect the battery terminals and locate the alternator on the front of the engine. It is a silver, oblong piece of equipment with a belt running to the crankshaft. In order to access it, you will need to remove the airbox lid.RemovalUse a long-handled breaker bar to pry back the belt tensioner and remove the serpentine belt. Disconnect the wiring harness on the side of the alternator with a screwdriver and then remove the ground/power wires with a small box end wrench. Use a socket wrench to remove the alternator’s mounting bolts and then pull it from the engine compartment.ReplacementSlide the new alternator into the engine compartment in place of the old one and reattach all of the mounting bolts. Reconnect the wiring harness, ground and power wires, then reinstall the serpentine belt with the breaker bar.
