Charging new batteriesAfter purchasing NiCad (nickel cadmium) batteries, place them in the charger, plug the charger into an outlet and charge the batteries overnight. Once the batteries are completely charged, allow them to drain by using them in an electronic device, such as a radio or a flashlight. Recharge the batteries again, repeating the above process twice. This will ensure the NiCad batteries get the most output they are capable of producing. Be sure to not overcharge the batteries, however, when they are plugged in. This can inadvertently reduce the batteries’ lifespans.Charging stored batteriesEven if NiCad batteries are not used, they should be regularly charged. If storing the batteries for emergency use only, remove the batteries from storage about once a month and plug them in to charge for about an hour. If taking the batteries out of storage to use them on a more regular basis, treat the batteries as if they are brand new and follow the charging cycles listed above.Rou
