Start from an OS X Installation CD or DVDInsert your Mac OS X installation CD or DVD while the computer is powered on and booted into Mac OS X. Click the “Apple” menu at the top left of the screen and select “Restart.” Once the computer reboots, press and hold the “C” key to force the PowerBook G3 to boot from the OS X installation CD or DVD.Launch Disk UtilityOpen the “Utilities” menu once the PowerBook G3 loads from the OS X installation disk. Click on “Disk Utility,” which opens a separate window of the same name. In the left-hand column, select the hard drive you want to clear. Be careful to select the right drive, as clearing the drive erases all data stored on it.Format the DriveClick the “Erase” tab hear the top of the Disk Utility window. Select a format for the drive; Mac OS Extended is the most common. Next, type the name by which you want to refer to the drive. Finally, click “Erase” to format the PowerBook G3 drive.
