How do I control Japanese virgins-bower (Clematis terniflora) in a home lawn in Norfolk County Virginia?
Recommendation: This species of clematis is prone to self seed, creating numerous seedlings in the lawn. It can also cause problems as vines climb over desirable ornamental shrubs and trees. Seedlings in the lawn can be controlled with broadleaf weed control products that contain at least two of the following active ingredients: 2,4-D, MCPP, MCPA, dicamba, clopyralid, and triclopyr. Apply repeat treatments at two week intervals if needed. Do not use lawn herbicides on or near desirable ornamental shrubs as the herbicide will injure or kill the shrub. Only apply these products to the lawn. Read and follow instructions on the herbicide container.
