The player cannot do this. The Windows Media Encoder has some basic ability to do this (via recording from line-in), but the Plus! Analog Recorder in the Plus! Digital Media Edition for Windows XP pack is actually designed for this purpose. If you’re not using Windows XP, MusicMatch is one of the many apps that can also do this.
