How do I cut outside corner moulding to trim out a trianglur inset in a wall?
If you have a good miter saw it’s relatively easy. Knowing your angles is a good start, but to get a perfect fit, those may have to change slightly. The three angles of a triangle should add up to 180 degrees and those add up to 182, so I’m betting you’ll be making some slight adjustments. 1. When dealing with odd angles, it’s always good to use small checker pieces so you don’t screw up your good material. I had to learn the hard way a couple times. 2. Set the piece of trim on your saw like it would lay on the wall. You may have to cut a block the depth of your inset to support the front of your trim. 3. Your miter cut will be half of the angle. So the left side angle cut would be 28 degrees. 4. If your saw is a standard miter saw, it will not cut a sharp enough angle for the bottom. A trick is to cut a 15 degree wedge the same depth as your inset, lay the trim on that, then adding the numbers up to cut the right angle. You’ll probably have to do this a couple times to get it right.
