How do I install a new Windows operating system onto a new hard disc?
If you are referring to Windows XP – Switch the machine on, put the CD in the drive. The machine should realise that there is no operating system on the harddrive and look at the CDs to find one – when it finds the Windows CD it will then start the install process. The Windows setup is pretty intuitive and will guide you through formatting the harddrive and installing the operating system – just follow the recommended settings if you’re not sure. NOTE: If the computer does not find the CD then try pressing the PC’s RESET button to get it to boot again (this time with the CD in right from the start) – if it still doesn’t work you need to go to the PC’s BIOS settings.
