I don’t think 4 mons. is too early. I would mix a little rice cereal about two teaspoons in a small bowl with formula, or breast milk. Don’t expect the baby to eat it all. You want to get the baby used to swallowing the food without choking. Once the baby eats some of the cereal then follow with the bottle of regular formula, or breastfeed. Do this every day until the baby gets the hang of swallowing. Next you can introduce a little applesauce or pears into the cereal. Some people put cereal into the formula bottle, but I would not do this until you are sure the baby can swallow properly. You can then advance by putting in cereal with applesauce in the bottle along with a nipple that has the proper hole in it for cereal. They sell these nipples in the stores.
