How do i know if my hamster pregnant?

You may not be able to tell if your hamster is pregnant in the first few days from her appearance but some owners say that she might act differently – you might notice her start to hoard bedding material and food or become more nervous or jumpy. Some hamsters don’t build nests right away so this is not a good indication. In the last few days, she should be quite big and it will be quite noticeable if you’ve been the one handling her prior to the pregnancy and know what she usually looks like. Check out http://sps.nus.edu.sg/~neesohye/pregnant.htm it was helpful to me. Also I had a pregnant hamster before fell free to e-mail me directly for any questions.

your hamster may start acting different by hoarding bedding or food. When she stands up on her hind legs you should be able to see a bulge as the pregnancy develops. If she does become pregnant try not to handle her too much and increase her protein by giving her some cooked chicken or fish. The gestation period of a syrian hamster is 16 days for the dwarf hamster it is 18-22 days. Try not to go to the cage too often as she may eat her babies if stressed. 2 days before she is due change her bedding and then for the next 2 weeks do not touch her, her cage or bedding. Just go to the cage when you feed her then leave her alone. DO NOT touch the young at all for at least 2 weeks as she may eat them for your scent will be on them. The pups will be ready to leave at 21 days and you must remove them by 4 weeks old or the mother will attack them. Hope this helps…
