How do I turn off system beep on Windows when backspace is pressed at start of field?
When backspace is used at start of field Inkscape produces annoying system sound/beep, The behavior is confirmed on Windows XP and 2000 with Inkscape up to 0.46. On Windows XP this can be turned off in a following way (requires administration rights): • Right-click on My Computer • On the Hardware tab, click on [Device Manager] • On the “View” menu, select “Show hidden devices” • Under “Non-Plug and Play Drivers”, right-click “Beep” • Click “Disable” • Answer [Yes] when asked if you really want to disable it • Answer [No] when asked if you want to reboot • Right-click “Beep” again. • Click “Properties” • On the “Driver” tab, set the Startup type to Disabled • Click [Stop] • Click [OK] • Answer [No] when asked if you want to reboot The procedure is obtained from the How-To Geek site.
