There is really nothing exactly like the original Inca Trail mostly because of the route that takes you directly into the ruins themselves. With any alternative route that you may take, you will always end up having to take a train to Aguas Calientes and then a bus up to the site, unless of course, you choose to walk up. Also, along the Inca Trail, there are various other ruins and sites to see; where as the alternative tours do not have that. On the other hand, some people STILL prefer the alternative routes to the Inca Trail mostly because of the intimate nature of the alternative routes. Whereas the Inca Trail at times is overcrowded with long lines and huge campsites of hundreds and hundreds of people, the alternative routes on the other hand are more personal with FAR fewer passengers on a daily basis.
