How do we, teachers, help the reader to develop a positive self-concept as a reader?
Arouse Student Interest & Motivate In the reading classroom, the teacher is a motivator/stimulator. The teacher should foster student expectations about the reading and arouse their interest to read. This can be done by asking them warmup questions or giving them a purpose for reading. In this way, students will enjoy learning language and develop a positive attitude towards reading. http://exchanges.state.gov/forum/vols/vol33/no4/p43.htm http://www.yale.edu/ynhti/curriculum/units/1989/3/89.03.05.x.html Respect Student’s Learning Style Learning Styles http://members.fortunecity.com/nadabs/learning.html Personal Learning Style Inventory http://www.howtolearn.com/personal.html Personality: Character and Temperament http://www.keirsey.com Respect Student’s Self Image as a Reader http://www.ascd.org/readingroom/cupdate/2000/1sum00.html Use Sustained Silent Reading What is Sustained Silent Reading?
