How Do You Build A Log Raft?
If you want to fulfill that Huckleberry Finn fantasy adventure of camping on a log raft, here is a good way to build one. • Collect 4 to 10 logs in a work area near shore that is deep enough for the logs to float. The more uniform the logs are, the better. • Collect 6 to 8 4-inch diameter poles that are longer than the logs when bunched up side to side. At one end of the bunched up logs, put a pole under the logs crosswise with a matching pole above the bottom pole. Repeat the process, with the remaining pole pairs evenly spaced to the opposite end of the raft. • Tie the protruding ends of the poles together at each end to clamp the logs tightly. Screw decking into the top sides of the cross poles to create an elevated platform. Plywood works well, but split driftwood with the smooth, round side up looks more natural.
