A knee wall is an excellent room divider; it cuts the space of a room in half without completely disconnecting the area. However, a knee wall also constitutes a large amount of wasted space. It’s hard to hang photographs on a knee wall since it is so low, and it doesn’t offer much storage room. Knee wall shelves solve that problem neatly, creating a large amount of extra storage space for books, photographs or toys. Building knee wall shelves is a simple project that can be completed using basic woodworking skills. Use a measuring tape to decide how many shelves you want on your knee wall. Most knee walls are between 3 and 4 feet high, and can fit at least two shelves on them from top to bottom. Horizontally, as many as 4 to 6 shelves can be built depending on the length of the wall. Draw a line with a pencil on the knee wall where you want to place each shelf. Use a level and measuring tape to draw even lines of the correct length for your shelves.
