Once you know how to change a Maytag dryer heating element, you can do the job yourself and save money on a repair bill. Purchase a replacement Maytag dryer heating element at an appliance repair store. Unplug the Maytag dryer from the dryer electrical outlet and pull the dryer away from the back wall. Use a putty knife to press in the locking clip between the front and top panels. While pressing the clip in with the putty knife, lift the top panel up to unlock it from the clip. Raise the top panel into the service position allowing it to rest on the back hinges. Locate the door switch connection on the inside front right corner of the Maytag dryer.
