Before you begin to change your tire, make sure you are off the road and in a safe place away from traffic. After you have decided that the situation is safe enough to change your tire, loosen the lug nuts, but do not take them off the whole way. Find a sturdy area under your car to place the jack. Make sure the area underneath your car is solid so that you can raise the car up for the tire change. After the jack is in place raise the car up so that the tire is off the ground. Take the lug nuts off. After the tire is lifted off the ground take the lug nuts the rest of the way off. Take the old tire off and place the new or spare tire on the car. Tighten the lug nuts.
