When the filter for the furnace is dirty, it can be cleaned or replaced with a new one. You can replace the filter on the furnace by first purchasing the new part. Turn off the power to the furnace by moving the switch to the “Off” position, or turning off the breaker at the circuit panel. Observe the blower and wait for it to stop before removing the access panel. Lift the panel up and slide it off the furnace. Lift the filter up out of the channel, and then slide it out of the unit. Mix a solution of warm water and dish soap. Dip the scrub brush in the solution and clean the filter by scrubbing lightly to remove dirt and debris. Set the filter aside and let it dry.
