Oscillating fans tend to get dirty after much use, and those that are used in dusty or high pollen areas need frequent cleaning. It’s best to clean oscillating fans thoroughly before you put them in storage. Step 1 Unplug the oscillating fan. Vacuum the fan’s protective grille. Use the vacuum cleaner’s brush attachment to loosen the surface dirt. Step 2 Remove the protective grille. Some oscillating fans use a clipping mechanism to attach the grille, while others use screws. The grille shouldn’t be too difficult to remove. Step 3 Take the blade cap off. This will allow you to remove the oscillating fan’s blades. Gently wipe the fan blades and grille with a damp washcloth or sponge. For extremely dirty fans, immerse the blades and grille in warm, soapy water and clean accordingly. Step 4 Dry the oscillating fan parts. You can either towel dry them or allow them to air dry.
