Collecting vinyl records is a hot hobby, with thousands of websites and stores catering to those who prefer the scratchy sounds of an LP to a CD. Because it is a potentially expensive hobby, care of vinyl records is extremely important. The Record Collectors Guild recommends cleaning the surface both before and after playing to get rid of dust and oil. Although this organization suggests using a cleanser of water and rubbing alcohol, many collectors prefer to use Armor All, a product normally used on vinyl in cars. A collector can try it with minimal expense and not worry that it will damage a keepsake. Spray a clean cloth with Armor All Protectant solution, making sure it is slightly damp but not overly saturated. Start on the inside of the record, near the turntable hole.
