How Do You Compress Quicktime Files?

0

QuickTime files, with file extension MOV, are a standard for MPEG-4 formats. They are native to Apple QuickTime Player, which is used by PC and Mac users. MOV files tend to be larger and of higher quality than other file formats, such as MP4s. MP4 compression will save you disk space on your hard drive, and will provide faster upload speed to Internet video players; however, it typically results in loss of video quality. Download and install QuickTime Player (see a link in “Resources”). Agree to the terms of use and open QuickTime. Open your QuickTime file by clicking “File” at the top of your screen then “Open File.” Locate your MOV in the finder window and click “Open.” Click “File” and “Export.” Rename your file, if needed, and select an output location. Select “Movie to MPEG-4” in the “Export” icon bar. Your new file extension will read MP4. Click “Save” to begin the compression process. Depending on your file size, this may take several minutes.
