How Do You Cut Holes In Glass?
Cutting a hole in glass is challenging. Glass routinely breaks under the pressure of the power drill. Before attempting the job with your project glass, practice cutting a hole in some inexpensive glass. Use a drill bit lubricant or sand to decrease the likelihood of glass breakage during the drilling. Another key element to prevent cracking is to keep the glass cool during drilling. Clamp the glass onto a firm, flat surface. Use permanent marker to note where you want to cut the glass. Place drill lubricant on the drill bit and/or sand on the area to be cut to decrease glass cracking during the drilling process. Drill glass at the lowest speed with a diamond-tipped drill bit, which is hard enough to cut through dense glass with pinpoint accuracy, reducing friction, unnecessary pressure and contact with the glass. Increase the drill speed in small increments. Lube the drill bit again if necessary. After cutting the hole, clean the glass and check for small cracks.
