How Do You Detect Counterfeit Dollar Bills?
As times get harder, crime of course increases and counterfeit is usually ranked highest on the list. As technology advances, the counterfeit process is becoming more advance as well. Ink washing is the preferred method because it is usually circulated for some time before being detected. Ink washing is just what it sounds like – washing the ink off the bill and then reprinting it at a high currency. Here are a few steps to take to detect counterfeit money. Make sure the portrait on front and the watermark portrait on back is of the same president. If not, this usually means the ink was washed off the bill and reprinted at a higher currency. Make sure to review the fine details of the bill (i.e. the boarder, seal, serial numbers, etc). If any of these are smudged or lack in consistency, more than likely it is a reprinted bill.
